Throughout the project the team organised monthly webinars to explore shared challenges while exchanging institutional expertise and co-developing module components. This work culminated in an in-person meeting at the University of Crete\, where the team recorded structured webinar content covering assessment literacy\, student-centred design\, AI-enabled feedback\, culturally responsive and multimodal assessment\, and sustainable feedback practices. Together\, these activities lay the foundation for a jointly developed\, inclusive\, and future-focused assessment and feedback module for the INGENIUM alliance. \nOana Elena Colt\, Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi\nKallia Katsampoxaki-Hodgetts\,University of Crete\nCai Weaver\, South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences\nTom O’Mahony\, Munster Technological University\n\n\n \nCHEMIT: Exploring Organic Chemistry Through Immersive Technologies  \n\nThe CHEMIT project brings together Munster Technological University (MTU)\, the University of Oviedo (UNIOVI)\, and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) to explore how existing technological and didactic innovations in virtual-reality-based teaching can be transferred into new educational contexts. While HKA and MTU already use advanced VR infrastructures and social VR environments in their teaching\, the University of Oviedo sees strong potential for applying VR in its Chemistry programmes. CHEMIT therefore aims to map the current state of VR use across the three institutions\, identify opportunities for integrating VR into chemistry education\, and outline future concepts for meaningful VR-supported learning. \nMembers of the team presenting\nRaquel Soengas\, University of Oviedo\, Department of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry\nFiona Schmidbauer\, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences\, Institute for Intelligent Interaction and Immersive Experience (IIIX)\nJeremiah Spillane\, Munster Technological University\, Department of Technology Enhanced Learning \n\n\n\nUsing assessment “OF\, FOR and AS” learning to develop a more impactful and authentic Intercultural Communication learning experience for students of MTU and HKA. \nDavid O Hanlon from MTU is leading the project and MTU is collaborating with MTU. They focus on the development of intercultural competence (UNESCO\, 2013) among students from Munster Technological University (MTU) and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA). By “internationalising” the learning experience (through the use of asynchronous and synchronous communication tools available on the INGENIUM Moodle Learning Management System- LMS)\, students of International Communication (from the International Business programme in MTU) and Business English (from a variety of programmes in HKA) will have the opportunity to experience authentic international communication between one another (without having to travel abroad). This project connects students through self- and peer-assessment of key communication and interpersonal skills (delivery of feedback\, presenting to an international audience\, networking and cultural/emotional intelligence) using co-designed rubrics. Online collaboration and reflection deepen intercultural understanding and support the development of cultural and emotional intelligence. They aim to refine the approach based on student feedback and share the project’s outcomes across INGENIUM.

Through a series of online meetings featuring virtual campus tours\, presentations\, and cross-institutional dialogue\, culminating in a site visit to MTU Ireland for campus visits and a seminar on “the third place” – the social threshold spaces where informal learning and community-building occur between formal educational environments – the partnership has developed a multifaceted framework integrating MTU’s person-centric stakeholder engagement model grounded in social justice\, identity\, and empowerment principles; XAMK’s scenario-based visioning methodology using workshop-generated personas to conceptualize future learning environments; HiS’s participatory action research approach yielding both theoretical frameworks and concrete spatial implementations; and TUIASI’s critical interrogation of the tension between architectural iconography\, heritage preservation\, and the creation of “spaces of radical openness” that challenge rather than merely accommodate learners. This Education Lab project addresses the complex interplay between physical space design\, pedagogical practice\, organizational culture\, and stakeholder participation\, recognizing that sustainable learning environment development requires not only innovative spatial solutions but also continuous engagement with the communities who inhabit\, transform\, and ultimately give meaning to these spaces. \nEach member of the team\, Peter Fogel (HIS)\, Matti Strengell (Xamk)\, Ancuta Rotaru (TUIASI) and Katie Power (MTU)  will share the presenting for the webinar. \nINVEX (International VR-Experience)   \nAs part of the EU4M Master’s program (of the ingenium universities Skövde\, UNIOVI and Karlsruhe)\, students have the opportunity to study in Gijón (UNIOVI)\, Spain. To promote the program\, a simulator is built that enables a virtual surfing experience on the beaches of Gijón. The initial mechanical setup and the infrastructure for data collection (360° videos + acceleration data) have already been developed in Germany. Data collection is carried out in parallel by students in Spain. In addition\, students in Sweden set up VR simulation models for the optimization of the surfing experience. Finally\, all partners contribute to the function of the systems making students experience the work in an international project. \n Speakers: Prof. Enrique Ruiz Zúñiga\, University of Skövde; Prof. Alberto Garcia Martinez\, UNIOVI; Prof. Martin Kipfmüller\, Hochschule Karlsruhe \n  \nIoT-Driven Environmental Monitoring for Innovative Sustainable Education (IT-EMISE) \nThis project aims to assemble Internet of Things (IoT) devices to create real-time environmental monitoring sensors. These sensors will analyse carbon dioxide (CO₂)\, particulate matter (PM)\, air temperature\, and air pressure. The primary goal is to build these sensors using readily available components and integrate them into educational courses related to environmental sampling and monitoring.\n \nShakil Regmi from Xamk will be presenting their work and Adrian O’Sullivan from MTU will also be present. Pictured also one project member Kati Kontinen form Xamk.

Xamk is partnering with UNIOVI\, MTU\, URN\, TUIASI in this project. They are developing and testing the Ingenium COIL course\, “Tackle Real Work Life Challenges.” This course\, in collaboration with local companies\, provides students with real-world challenges. Teachers will act as coaches\, guiding international\, multilingual student teams through problem-solving processes\, enhancing their practical skills\, and preparing them for global workplaces. \nStudents will engage with business representatives\, work in multidisciplinary teams\, and develop problem-solving abilities. Teachers will facilitate learning and support student teams to ensure successful outcomes. The course also aims to foster networking among all parties involved: company representatives\, students\, teachers\, and RDI specialists\, creating a new model for international cooperation among Ingenium partners. The outcome will be a tested course and cooperation module. The process will be documented and an article published in an international scientific journal. \nInvestigating Norman Cistercian Influences: A Cross-Cultural Exploration Between Normandy and Abruzzo \nThis project offers students a unique\, hands-on experience with medieval cultural heritage. By visiting Cistercian abbeys and the State Archive of Siena\, students engage directly with both architectural monuments and historical documents. The program combines field trips\, guided analysis\, lectures\, and creative activities such as photo and video contests for a webinar. The aim is to enhance students’ understanding of medieval history\, archival research\, and cultural context\, while promoting active learning and collaboration. The project highlights the value of experiencing historical sources in person\, beyond digital tools\, and serves as a model for experiential learning in cultural heritage education. \nMaria Carreri (Ud’A)\,  Mario Marrocchi\, Marcella Lacanale \, and Gabriella Gente Magnan will be present at the webinar. \nShared experimentation between European universities of the “L’Ascolto” project and implementation of AI in the “L’Ascolto” web platform.\n \nThis project is led by Ida Verna from G.d’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara. MUS and Xamk are also joined in the project. Their goal is to experiment with the L’Ascolto project between European universities and to implement AI in the L’Ascolto web platform. The L’Ascolto is a web platform whose objective is the creation\, management and sharing of knowledge by education actors (teachers\, students\, institutional bodies and other stakeholders). The creation of such knowledge is the result of a holistic approach to teaching-learning processes\, based on a framework that combines the Deming cycle with the QFD Quality Function Deployment and Kolb’s experiential learning cycle. The aim of the L’Ascolto Approach is to enable teachers\, students and institutional bodies to use the same methodological approach to teaching improvement (innovation)\, with a single web platform. Although the actors of education use the platform at different times and in different ways\, they work towards the common goal of educational innovation\, with the same language (Listening Framework: constructive alignment combination of Biggs\, Bloom\, Dublin Descriptors\, Deming Cycle\, Kolb’s experiential learning). The creation\, management and sharing of knowledge is the output of a continuous cycle of planning\, management\, evaluation and improvement of all teaching processes (Curriculum and individual teaching considered as a whole)\, while these are in progress and for the benefit of all actors: \nTEACHERS: development of teachers’ professionalism (ENQA\, 2007; OCDE\, 2012; EC\, 2013; EHEA\, 2020) through their continuous self-training\, the result of the knowledge-sharing process (best practices) among all the teachers using the platform; \nSTUDENTS: enhancement of learning (EC\, 2017; ENQA\, 2020; EHEA\, 2020) implemented thanks to the promotion and drive for innovation that the holistic approach feeds into the Deming/Kolb cycle (Verna\, 2020) and that the platform manages and shares among the actors\, in terms of knowledge/competences; \nCOURSE COORDINATORS: development of academic leadership\, implemented thanks to the knowledge-sharing system that provides continuous feedback (listening to needs) to the coordinator for the improvement/innovation of the teaching processes designed\, managed and evaluated as a single system in continuous evolution. \nL’Ascolto is ultimately a pedagogical model for experiential learning for teachers\, students and institutional bodies.

MTU’s partners ar URN\, Xamk and HIS. DML is an interdisciplinary\, alliance-wide virtual STEAM lab and art movement designed to push boundaries in media innovation\, education\, and public engagement. Inspired by Coventry University’s Disruptive Media Learning Lab and the Science Gallery model\, the DML aims to foster a collaborative environment (for both staff and students) for radical media creation that invites public interaction\, engagement\, and experimentation. By combining experts with lab spaces and facilities from science\, technology\, engineering\, arts\, and mathematics (STEAM)\, the DML will empower participants to develop disruptive media that challenges traditional academic and social narratives\, facilitating a cross-alliance network of researchers\, artists\, and technologists. The result of these collaborations will see new and innovative teaching and learning opportunities emerge. \nDML’s aim is to promote interdisciplinarity and co-creation\, to innovate how faculty share knowledge about their disciplines through disruptive artistic interventions. The project leaders will establish a “Leonardo Group”\, comprising 50 members\, which will include specialists and students from all INGENIUM universities from across all STEAM disciplines. The Leonardo Group will also include other experts from communities peripheral to INGENIUM’s various European campuses. These might include\, but are not limited to street artists\, dancers\, social media influences\, comedians and so on. The aim of this Leonardo Group is to foster collaborations between academics and experts within INGENIUM and other creative and thought leaders outside of academic settings in our communities. These collaborations will draw on the various facilities – media labs\, science labs and so on – to create radical and/or artistic interventions to communicate knowledge and educate in new and disruptive ways. \nASPIRE Student leadership Programme \nAnSEO The Student Engagement Office\, Munster Technological University\, Cork\, Ireland. \nIn collaboration with South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences\, Xamk\, Finland and The Technical University Gheorghe Asachi Iasi\, Romania. \nThe ASPIRE student leadership programme extends beyond traditional academic learning by developing essential leadership skills such as communication\, teamwork\, collaboration\, problem-solving\, and decision-making—competencies vital in today’s dynamic work environments. SUMMARY:Staff Academy Webinar: Gamification
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the academic year\, INGENIUM organises several public Staff Academy webinars where there are 1–3 short case presentations on cutting-edge teaching practices\, followed by a lively discussion and Q&A session. The webinars unfold on Zoom and are hosted by the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk). \nRegister here!\nTheme of this webinar is Gamification. \nPreliminary Schedule\n12:00–12:20 Marcus Nohlberg\, HIS: Experiences from Developing a Pedagogical Game: Siguru\n12:20–12:30 Discussion\n12:30–12:50 Rainer Neumann\, HKA: Gamification as a Driver for Motivation?\n12:50–13:00 Discussion\n13:00–13:20 Cristina Vatavu\, TUIASI: Game-like activities in electrical circuits\n13:20–13:30 Discussion \nRegister to the webinar here: https://xamk-fi.zoom.us/meeting/register/_Uyvau4uR1iituwqIDyYiQ \nSpeakers and their topics\nMarcus Nohlberg is an Associate Professor in Information Technology and a researcher specializing in the human aspects of cybersecurity and digital behavior. With more than two decades of academic and industry experience\, he explores how people and technology interact\, often revealing unexpected patterns and opportunities for learning. When not developing new ways to make security awareness engaging\, he works to make complex ideas about technology and society accessible to everyone. \n\nExperiences from Developing a Pedagogical Game: Siguru\n\nWhat happens when something traditionally seen as dull\, complex\, and uninspiring\, such as cybersecurity training\, is transformed into an activity that is engaging\, social\, and even enjoyable? With Siguru\, we set out to redefine awareness training through gamification and research-based design. Can games truly improve learning\, motivation\, and collaboration? This session shares key insights\, challenges\, and lessons learned from developing Siguru\, a pedagogical cybersecurity card game that turns serious topics into meaningful and memorable learning experiences.\n\n\n\nRainer Neumann\, holds a doctorate in computer science and is a professor of business informatics and currently Vice-President for Teaching at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. In various events\, he deals with topics such as motivation\, self-perception and work organisation. \n\nGamification as a Driver for Motivation?\n\nYou don’t have to play games – but you do have to learn and work\, right?\nWhy do people play games\, and what motivates them to do so?\nThis short lecture outlines the basic concepts of several motivation theories and uses the example of a gamification framework to show how playful elements can increase motivation.\n\n\n\nCristina Vatavu\, Professor at TUIASI\, is passionate about non-formal education and unconventional learning methods. She has 30 years in electrical engineering education\, with a PhD in electrical engineering on fuzzy logic control algorithms.  She is concerned with implementing the Oxford comma in Romanian. She believes that a good understanding is more valuable than a good grade. \n\nGame-like activities in electrical circuits\n\nAn exercise for the formation of transversal and professional competencies in the field of electrical engineering is presented\, which activates both skills and attitudes. The exercise called BLINDCOPY is a game developed on the fundamental design principles of constructivism. It can be applied in disciplines such as Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering or Electrical Circuit Theory\, but is not limited to these specific areas. It is a playful activity that relaxes the atmosphere and provides uniqueness to curricular applications. The main goal of the exercise is to understand the principles of electrical circuit topology (node\, branch and loop) and to change the common perception of what an electrical diagram should look like (from a graphic sketch to an arrangement of interconnected elements). Another secondary goal is to form and strengthen communication skills and teamwork skills.\n\n\n\n  \nIf you would like to present your idea in a Staff Academy Webinar\, please contact ingenium@xamk.fi. We will get in touch with the speakers before the event and talk more about the arrangements. As a speaker please remember to also register as a participant for the webinar. \nStaff Academy event recordings and webinars will be published on INGENIUM YouTube channel. \n

With extensive experience from mainframes to mobile devices\, Kimmo crafts bespoke solutions for clients’ unique challenges. At EY\, Kimmo drives business value through technology-powered transformations\, emphasizing open communication and collaboration. Previously\, he held technical leadership roles at IBM Finland\, specializing in ERP\, EAM\, and custom solutions. Passionate about sustainability\, Kimmo leverages AI to accelerate sustainability efforts\, focusing on building confidence in AI and creating exponential value through holistic but practical approaches. \n\nAI in working-life\n\nAI adaptation current state and future views at workplaces.\nAI is estimated to drive large transformation in workplaces affecting majority of professions and roles. What type of AI scenarios we can think to unfold in the future? What is the current state of AI adaptation and what have we learned from the large scale AI transformation at EY?\n\n\n\nUlisses Moliterno de Camargo\, PhD (University of Helsinki)\, is a Senior Lecturer in Information Technology at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences. In addition to his teaching responsibilities\, he coordinates international studies within the IT engineering program. His research has focused on applied Artificial Intelligence\, with a growing interest in future-proof educational practices and methodologies. \n\nThe 10x Teacher: How AI Methods Multiply Our Teaching Impact\n\nJust as AI has empowered software engineers to achieve “10x” productivity\, it holds the same transformative potential for teaching. In this talk\, I will explore concrete AI methods and techniques that educators can adopt to streamline preparation\, personalize learning\, and enhance student engagement. The goal is to show how teachers can become “10x teachers” not by working more\, but by working smarter\, with AI as a powerful partner in pedagogy.\n\n\n\nMariano Pierantozzi – Associate Professor of Applied Physics Ud’A \nHe is an Associate Professor of Applied Physics\, with consolidated experience in the field of technical physics. His research activity is mainly devoted to the analysis and modeling of thermophysical and energy-related processes. Over the years\, he has authored numerous scientific publications concerning the thermophysical properties of fluids\, with particular focus on the accurate determination and modeling of quantities such as surface tension\, viscosity\, and thermal conductivity\, as well as other properties relevant to engineering applications. \nA significant part of his work has been dedicated to the application of machine learning techniques to the study of fluid properties. These approaches have been employed both to improve the predictive accuracy of classical models and to develop new methodologies for estimating thermophysical data in cases where experimental information is limited or unavailable. This line of research reflects an effort to combine traditional theoretical and numerical methods with data-driven approaches\, in order to provide tools of practical utility for the scientific and engineering community. \nIn addition to his research\, he has developed an interest in teaching. Although not a pedagogy specialist\, he pays attention to the challenges that students may face when approaching technical subjects. In recent years\, he has introduced the use of artificial intelligence tools in his lectures\, with the aim of facilitating understanding and supporting students in learning the fundamental principles of physics. \nMiriam D’ignazio – Ph.D.s in Science and Technology for Sustainable Development Ud’A \nMiriam D’ignazio (M.Arch.\, B.Sc.) is a Ph.D.s. in Science and Technology for Sustainable Development. Her interdisciplinary background combines a Master’s degree in architecture and a Bachelor’s one in psychology\, integrated by specialized training in Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design (NAAD) at Iuav University of Venice and Neuroimaging: From Methods to Neuroscience Applications at University of Chieti-Pescara. \nShe studied at École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Normandie (ENSA)\, where she delved into urban sociology;Miriam then worked in Peru with the Municipality of Lima through a year-long international cooperation project with Architecture Sans Frontières International (ASF). \nShe currently works at the Building Physics and Energy Systems laboratory\, where she investigates the relationship between allostatic load and built environmental factors within an interdisciplinary team of engineers\, biologists\, and psychologists. \n\nLEARNING by CREATING – Student-centered teaching with AI tools\n\nThe presentation describes a pedagogical experiment integrating AI tools into a Technical Physics course on convective heat transfer at the University of Chieti-Pescara. Students used AI independently to learn assigned subtopics and create diverse educational materials (videos\, podcasts\, infographics) to teach their peers\, resulting in higher-quality work than expected and positive learning outcomes. The “learning by creating” approach with AI support enhanced student engagement\, creativity\, and understanding while transitioning the instructor from lecturer to learning facilitator.

SUMMARY:Climate Fresk: The World’s Largest Climate Education Event
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, September 30\, 2025\, at 1:00 p.m.\, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences will host an extraordinary record-setting event: the world’s largest Climate Fresk workshop\, organized as part of the INGENIUM European University Alliance. With the ambitious goal of setting up a new Guiness World Record by engaging over 1\,800 participants on-site\, the event aims to raise awareness of the urgent challenges posed by climate change while sending a powerful\, united message for global climate protection. \nA Europe-Wide Climate Action Day\nThis event will not stand alone. Across Europe\, other Climate Fresk workshops will take place on the same day as part of a coordinated international effort. Also\, through the initiative of HKA other INGENIUM partners will join the effort by organizing their own local connected events. \nBy connecting these parallel events\, participants from Karlsruhe will join thousands of others in a continent-wide network dedicated to learning\, collaboration\, and climate action. Together\, these activities will amplify the message that climate awareness and sustainable action transcend borders. \nWhat is Climate Fresk?\nClimate Fresk is a groundbreaking educational tool that uses a collaborative “climate puzzle” approach to reveal the complex scientific relationships behind climate change. Participants piece together the causes\, consequences\, and dynamics of the climate crisis. This hands-on approach not only builds understanding but also empowers people to envision solutions and take meaningful action. \nWhat makes Climate Fresk unique is its combination of scientific rigor and engaging\, interactive learning methods. Based on the latest findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)\, the workshop transforms abstract data into a clear\, visual\, and collective experience. By encouraging teamwork and discussion\, it helps participants develop both knowledge and the motivation to act. \nGoals of the Event\nThe mission behind this world record attempt is to unite and engage people on an unprecedented scale. By mobilizing more than 1\,800 participants in Karlsruhe alone with dozens more from INGENIUM partners\, and connecting them with parallel events across Europe\, the organizers aim to create an extraordinary collective learning experience and demonstrate the power of international collaboration in tackling the climate emergency. \nExperience and Previous Successes\nThe organizing team brings extensive experience. One of the project’s initiators\, a board member for education at Climate Fresk Deutschland e.V.\, has already facilitated numerous large-scale Climate Fresk workshops\, some involving over 200 participants. Building on this expertise\, the 2025 event is set to raise the bar for collaborative climate education. \nJoin the INGENIUM Movement\nThis Climate Fresk workshop is part of the INGENIUM European University Alliance’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. By participating\, individuals will not only take part in a historic world record attempt but also become part of a Europe-wide network of learners and change-makers striving for a sustainable future. You can also take action yourself: either join us or look for local groups via climatefresk.org to participate in a Climate Fresk workshop on-site or online.
